The Only Living Boy In New York Simon & Garfunkel

Luke: “Apparently Paul Simon and Art were both supposed to be in the film adaptation of Joseph Heller’s “Catch 22”. Simon’s part got cut from the film and while Art flew down to Mexico for the filming, Paul sat sad and lonely in a New York Hotel and penned this song. (Thanks to Niall, my coworker for sharing this story)”

“Regard this fleeting world like this:
Like stars fading and vanishing at dawn,
like bubbles on a fast-moving stream,
like morning dewdrops evaporating on blades of grass,
like a candle flickering in a strong wind…
echoes, mirages, and phantoms, hallucinations,
and like a dream.”

“Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up save in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket—safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.” —C.S. Lewis, from lepetitmort)

“Our notions about happiness entrap us. We forget that they are just ideas. Our idea of happiness can prevent us from actually being happy. We fail to see the opportunity for joy that is right in front of us when we are caught in a belief that happiness should take a particular form.” —Thich Nhat Hanh

“The unknown is not measurable by the known. Time cannot measure the timeless, the eternal, that immensity which has no beginning and no end… when we try to measure something which is not measurable, we only get caught in words.” —Jiddu Krishnamurti
